Day 4
Wednesday 20th: CHENGDE
Travel by coach to Chengde, hotel
lunch, Tour Bishushanzhuang, walled mountain resort (palaces, villas, lakes and
gardens), Free time for strolling in the town and market, Dinner
We will share a comfortable coach drive to
Chende, (Hebei Province) to visit the Summer Mountain Resort (Bishushanzhuang) and its
surrounding Temples. Impressively, the size of Chengde's summer resort is the combined
size of the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace. Surrounded by a 6-mile long wall it
spans over 590 hectares. Whilst absorbing the style, arts and culture of many other
cultural groups, especially the Tibetans. This fascinating "Mountain Resort and
Temples of Chengde" were added to Unesco's World Heritage List in 1994.
Continuing on to the Summer Resort - The
Mountain Resort (the Qing dynasty's summer palace) was built around 1703 and 1792. A vast
complex of palaces, offices & ceremonial buildings. We share temples of many
architectural styles and the imperial gardens manage to blend harmoniously into a
landscape of lakes, pastureland and forests. Combined with it's aesthetic interest, the
Mountain Resort is a wonderful historic tribute to the final development of feudal society
in China.
Day 5 Thursday
21st: CHENGDE - BEIJING- After Breakfast we visit three of the Outlying Temples
(Putuozongcheng, Xumifushou and Puning). For anyone with an interest in the mystical,
these sites will amaze you. (An exact replica of the Potala palace in Tibet). We will
share with you the history & the special spiritual energies. Putuozongcheng
(Potala) Palace is modelled directly in accordance with Lhasa's Potala Palace. It is the
largest and most impressive of the Chengde palaces and was built around 1790 by Qianlong
for his 60th birthday.
Other fascinating temples we will visit include: Xumifushou (1781), a replica of a temple
in Shigatse, Tibet;
Puning Temple, which comprises an interesting combination of Tibetan & Han
architecture, primarily built to commemorate the victory over the Mongols. A stele
describes the events in Chinese, Manchu, Tibetan and Mongolian. Resplendant with a 65-foot
high Buddha (Avalokitesvara) statue with 42 arms and an eye on each palm. Lunch (farmers style food and
restaurant), Return to Beijing, Check in to our guesthouse for the
remainder of our stay in Beijing
*Note - the Beijing description here is reasonably brief. We have MANY wonderful events in store here, yet at the time of writing this itinerary, most were still being finalised. We are happy to share the developments in person with you, should you desire to contact us.
Day 6 Friday
22nd: BEIJING- We delve into the mysteries of the
secret underground city (most of the locals are unaware of its existence). In
fact when we asked around to visit this city we were repaetedly told by the locals
"it is a fable, it simply does not exist, you have been told a myth". However,
exist it does, even below the blissful ignorance of the Chinese dwelling directly above it
and you will be amazed by this replica of "Beijing" that exists 'as above and so
below'.
Fascinating vegetarian lunch & Hutong visits by rickshaw, tea ceremony at
the Bell & Drum tower, drinks & afternoon tea at the fashionable Hou Hai district.
Prepare your bargaining skills for fantastic shopping tonight, have a manicure or body
treatment & a famous dinner.
Day 7 Saturday
23rd: BEIJING- A visit to the famous dirt market
50,000 shoppers a day come here & you can bargain for almost anything you can imagine.
We'll be on hand if required to assist you and guide you through the process, although in
the past, most of the people we have 'et loose' here have disappeared to the far corners
of the market & come back 'beaming' with their treasures. A beautiful journey to the
Temple of Heaven, Feng Shui studies, lunch at the famous (& incredible loud, but
'cool') Beijing noodle house (this is sure to be a talking point afterwards). Some late
afternoon shopping at the pearl and silk markets & on the other end of the scale a
peaceful and enlightening immersion in the local hutongs.
Day 8 Sunday
24th: BEIJING- Early morning Qi Gong with masters at
Purple Bamboo Park. A enlightening full day studying & observing healing with various
teachers & techniques. Receive a healing & awaken your energies.
Day 9 & 10 Monday & Tuesday 25th & 26th: BEIJING- YOUR CHOICE Together we organize several journeys & you decide which are of most interest to join. You may visit: Summer Palace, Forbidden City, Tien an men Sq, Yonghegong, Confucius Temple, Bei Hai Park, further training in Feng Shui or healing, night markets, the ancient city, shopping + more. Dinner 1 night prepared lovingly by Buddhist monks.
During our stay in Beijing, we will
visit an (impoverished) village school & an orphanage & we will assist in our own
way, a heart opening experience & something truly special to take
Day 11
Wednesday 27th: BEIJING- Tour concludes, free day & flights
home (or extend your journey & stay on)
Climate? The
average September temperature in Beijing is around 13 28 degrees C, cooler in the
Mountains & down south. You may need a light cardigan, jacket or wrap for evenings.
