Instructions for Use and Care of your Renascent Soap Art Molds
Pouring Temperature: We have tested our Soap Art molds with Renascent Melt & Mold temperatures of up to 140°F without warping. However, it is recommended to pour the soap base as low as possible, to increase the mold's working life.
Unmolding Times for Melt & Mold: Most soap base can be unmolded within 30 minutes at room temperature, sometimes less. If it is still slightly difficult to remove, waiting longer or chilling the soap will make it easier to unmold. If you are still having difficulties demolding after 4 hours, wait a little longer (preferably overnight). *Note: Do not allow your soap to go below 55-60°F or freeze as you will get water beads on the surface. Try not to stretch your mold if possible as this can weaken the sides and over time cause cracking or spilts. (Should you split your mould - it can be fixed with a squeeze of bathroom silicone - available from hardware stores)
Mold Release agents: A mold release agent is available from some stores. Alternatively you may try a vegetable oil spray (only a little or your soap will be greasy). A light spray before you pour the soap into the mold will prolong the life of your mold and assist the release of the soap. If the soap sticks to the mold, using a mold release may aid in the release of these types of soap. Our molds do not require a release agent when pouring waxes, soaps, urethanes. Even though no release agent is necessary, a non silicone based release agent will not hurt and will extend the life of our molds. DO NOT USE A SILICONE BASE RELEASE AGENT. Silicone will stick to silicone.
Cleaning the Molds: Usually rinsing the molds in warm water is all that is necessary. You may also wash the molds in warm water, if necessary, to remove any leftover oils and/or soap residue. *Please note, essential oils, especially strong citrus-based oils may damage your mold over time.
Storing silicone Molds: When you have finished, place the mold back in the bag and store away from direct sunlight or strong temperature changes. Some people fill their molds with wax in between pours to ensure the shape. These molds are very elastic but do have a tear point. Do not stretch more than you need to demold. Do not stack to store or crush them, or in any way distort.
Additional Information.....
Adding Cosmetic Shimmers - Renascent stock a range of beautiful gold mica dust & shimmers. It is very inexpensive and you only need a pinch. After you have melted your soap and added the colors and fragrances, add a tiny pinch and wait a few moments. You will notice a beautiful shimmer suddenly appear throughout your soap. You can also ‘paint' your mold with the shimmers for the soap to have a shimmering external appearance. Click here for shimmers
Soap Petals for guests -These are lovely to use as guest soaps. Melt your Renascent Melt and Mold soap as usual, adding colors or fragrances if desired. Dip a Renascent silk flower petal in and place on a piece of tinfoil or wire rack to dry. When set (1-3 minutes) you will have beautiful soap petals. Place in a dish for guests to take one and wash their hands. A lovely idea for parties or special guest soaps. Packaged up, these make very (inexpensive) special gifts.
Adding Botanicals - Many different items can be added to your soaps. Try adding green tea leaves, dried basil leaves, herbs, dried flower petals. Anything you can imagine. It is important to dry the botanicals prior to use as they may otherwise become mouldy or rancid. *Remember, botanicals will sink to the bottom of your mold in most cases and if you use a lot of very fine botanicals, they can become caught in body hair when using the soap and create an unpleasant experience.
